Charm of the Week: Let’s Talk Keggy Style

When Kerry Leikus was pregnant with her second child, she wanted a stylish belt that would complement her style and her growing waistline.

Instead of embarking on a belt search, Leikus decided she would try making a belt by hand.

“I began designing fabric and created my first reversible woven belt available in a myriad of sizes,” Leikus said.  I later moved on to leather belts and began designing buckles.  I received numerous inquiries as to whether I was also designing jewelry due to the bauble-like quality of my buckles.  It seemed like a natural progression to move into jewelry and our first ring collection was born.”

Since 2005, Leikus has been the owner of Keggy Enterprises. Her retro inspired belts have been worn by starlets like Jessica Alba, Molly Sims, Lauren Conrad and Jessica Biel.

In March 2012, Keggy will be available in two Baltimore boutiques including Sassanova and Fresh! Boutique.

“I am thrilled to be partnering with Sassanova and Fresh! Boutique,” Leikus said. I’m delighted to have their local support of our brand.”

“Sassanova is a one-of-a kind accessories store featuring the latest in shoes, jewelry and other accessories.  I feel like a kid in a candy store there.  It is definitely the ultimate ‘oooh’ and ‘ahhh’ shopping experience.  Sassanova was the perfect match for our belts and rings.”

“Fresh! Boutique offers the answer to my ‘what to wear out on a Saturday night’ question.  With an unmatched selection of dresses and a stylist on site, I never leave there empty handed.  Our belts and rings offer a pop of color and the finishing touch to their exquisite collection of dresses.”

When a designer’s favorite shops showcase their work, it is always a big accomplishment.

This year, she launched two collections: Solo Ring collection and Duet Belt collection. Her latest belt collection is inspired by her obsession with bold colors and geometric shapes.

“This line of belts features bauble-like buckles that can be swapped on a whim,” Leikus said. With this collection, women can take a hand in designing their own belt style by mix and matching buckles, interchanging belt straps and stacking the belts for a more layered look.  I love the versatility of this line and the concept of building your own collection by just adding a strap or a new set of buckles.”

Keggy’s sister line of rings perfectly match the esthetic of the Duet Belt collection featuring an unexpected use of enamel.

“I am definitely partial to our square enamel ring,” Leikus said.  It offers a punch of color that can complement or contrast with your outfit—depending on your mood.  It is definitely a statement piece.”

Whether the Keggy designer is tearing sheets out of magazines or jotting down thoughts for a new design concept, Leikus continues to evolve as a designer.
