Last year, I had the most amazing time at MICA’s Experimental Fashion Event, Panoptic. After experiencing the event, I decided that this is one fashion event in Baltimore that I refuse to miss.
On Saturday, April 9, the lovely Fiber Department of MICA will present RACK: An Experimental Fashion Event at 6 p.m. and at 9 p.m. at the location of 2640 (St. John’s Church), 2640 St. Paul St.
The annual Experimental Fashion Event is a capstone for students in MICA’s experimental fashion concentration within the Fiber Department. Students presenting their work include:
Sharela Bonfield
Yeji Byun
Maria Chaverri
Rachel Christensen
Jacob Whayne Dillow
Ginny Duncan
Kyle England
Mika Eubanks
Sarah Ivancic
Soyoung Park
Matthew Reading
MollyRoberts
Katharine Weintraub
Nolla Yuan
These talented students will present their innovative fashion and costume designs through visually stunning live performances and projected video. And, I can not wait to see it!
I had the pleasure of getting the 411 about two amazing designer showcasing at this event: Molly Roberts and Sarah Ivancic.
“My line is called Sprightly. Sprightly is a line of ready-to-wear garments created with the fashion forward youth in mind. The collection is comprised of pieces which are intended to be versatile and unique–many pieces are crafted of one-of-a-kind, hand-dyed fabrics. Each garment evokes a sense of burgeoning energy and carries with it the feeling of Spring.” -Molly Roberts “Monstrosities is inspired by a comment made in jest that a fashion collection be based upon dinosaurs. The costumes enabled an exploration of textile techniques, such as surface design to create dinosaur inspired prints and textures. The conceptual challenge was to develop characters that represent ideas around feminine strength and power, through costume and clothing. What emerges is the flirtatious, lady dinosaur both terrifying and tantalizing. Dont get to close, you might get bit or covered in glitter.” -Sarah IvancicTrust me, you do not want to miss this event. Tickets are $5. You can buy them at the MICA Book Store, 1200 W. Mount Royal Ave. and store.mica.edu. Limited tickets will be sold at the door for $10.
